It’s Pancake Tuesday. It’s the day before the beginning of the season of Lent. It’s the day we can have a treat before we give up sweets or dessert or….. for 40 days . I grew up an Anglican (Episcopal for you from the USA). We celebrated two seasons in the year – Advent and Lent . Advent marks the four Sunday’s before Christmas . Lent begins 40 days before Easter and ends the night before Easter.
Advent was always a season of wonder and anticipation .
Because of COVID and all the restrictions, I feel like I missed both Advent and Christmas in 2020.
Advent was muted
Quiet and devoid of hope.
Many of us spent Christmas alone or did dinner virtually. That did not work for me .
Lent is a season of sacrifice . We are supposed to give up something . Growing up that always meant giving up candy or sweets .
Pancakes with Roger’s Golden Syrup was always lunch on the Tuesday before Lent began.

I’ve decided that Lent 2021
Will be
A season of giving
Not a season
Of giving up.
For these 40 days my hope , my desire is to make you laugh , make you smile and connect our hearts as we journey toward the promise of Easter.
I hope you will join me on my Lenten journey .
