BETTER… BUT

“Many bikers can’t get past that word ‘BETTER’. They fail to take into account the circumstances in which it might be better; they just hear ‘better’, and they decide that that’s what they need.

It’s a bit like trying to convince motorcyclists that a 100 horsepower bike is better than a 150 horsepower one.

I quite like this analogy because, of course, for most people, the lower powered bike probably would be. But most motorcyclists will want the extra power, even though they will rarely use it or benefit from it.

All they hear is bigger, better, faster or more powerful, and so that’s what they convince themselves they have to have!” (from Aerostich blog)

When it comes to “BETTER” we have to always add the “BUT” and ask ourselves “What is the price to pay?”

Not only to the monetary price (Is this new model worth the additional sum of money asked?) but more specifically the price to pay in relationships, family life, happiness, respect for others, care of the environment, protection of the weak…

I.E. We have better transportation but what is the price we pay to the environment? We have better nutrition but what is the price to pay to the animal world? We have better communications but what is the price to pay to family life?

You can continue with many relevant “BETTER” not worth the price to pay BUT we need to transform the question “What is the price to pay?” into a practical guide every time we make a choice.
