Alpha 6.5: Not the Virtuverse we asked for, but the Virtuverse we deserve.

Over the four ongoing years of Virtuverse development, we have released 6 public versions of the game, with more than double that of backer preview releases. Our approach to development was fast paced but not very robust. In a similar vein to our debilitating technical debt accumulated over the years, Virtuverse was also awalys plagued with one core issue — performance.

We often made excuses, saying “it’s only an alpha, we’ll optimise it later”. Sometimes we even removed the thread.sleep() calls from some parts of the codebase only to release an update that supposedly “fixed performance issues”. We blamed Unreal Engine, said there’s nothing we can do about it, while simultaneously upgrading to Unreal Engine 5 and cutting our player-base in half because some of them have older PCs.

This changes today.

With the release of Virtuverse Alpha 6.5, players around the world will be able to enjoy cutting edge RPG Maker technology, and immerse themselves in the wonderful world of planet Stig. This technological marvel was developed by AugyTek, our community ambassador and the first person to respond to you on Discord if you have a question even remotely related to computers. He developed Virtuverse RPG (Alpha 6.5) over the course of about a month, because we ourselves were busy updating Unreal Engine plugins… again.

What’s new?

  • We scrapped RCE. It was a bad idea to begin with.
  • No more multiplayer. No-one likes their friends anyway.
  • 2D. 3rd dimension may be purchased with a founders pack.
  • Made with RPG Maker. Single-handedly fixed all of our performance issues.
  • Still no native Linux support. Sorry, not sorry, endermigne.
  • But it’s on Android! Wait what..?

You read that right! Virtuverse is now a mobile game. We’ve taken inspiration from other large game studios, and instead of porting the game to mobile, the desktop version is actually a port of the mobile version instead, providing you with unparalleled controls and immersion.

What’s next?

Much like with Alpha 6, support for Virtuverse Alpha 6.5 will be dropped immediately and no further updates will come.

Where can it get it?

Virtuverse Alpha 6.5 is public and free for anyone to download on https://april.virtuverse.io/.
