The Golden Visa Lives Again — But for How Long?
The Home Office have made a rapid about turn. Having announced a few days ago that the UK Tier 1 Investor Visa would be suspended at midnight on 7th December 2018 as part of a crackdown on corruption, there has been a complete reversal with the suspension as it were suspended! What are we to make of this?
First, the Government policy is quite clear; change is coming. Second, UK Tier 1 investors could be stopped in their tracks at any time.
No reasons have been given so it is hard to speculate as to the reason for the u-turn. One possible reason may be that the Home Office has received notice of some sort of legal challenge, perhaps by way of Judicial Review. The Home Office have looked to see if the changes are Judge proof and may have seen some holes that need to be plugged. It’s not difficult to see that giving such short notice may have caused unfairness. No doubt all will be revealed soon.
