Visible Hands Receives $750,000 Philanthropic Contribution from JPMorgan Chase
JPMorgan Chase is supporting Visible Hands — an investment firm with a fellowship program that helps women, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, non-binary, and other underrepresented founders launch new tech businesses — with $750,000 philanthropic contribution.
BOSTON, MA — June 30th, 2021.
Visible Hands announced today it received a three-year contribution from JPMorgan Chase for Visible Hands’ inaugural fellowship program.
Visible Hands is a pre-seed investment firm with a virtual-first, 14-week fellowship program to support women, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, non-binary, and other overlooked founders in launching tech startups. Visible Hands aims to help create hundreds of companies led by underrepresented founders.
Earlier this year, JPMorgan Chase & Co. made a $30 billion commitment to provide economic opportunity to underserved communities, especially the Black and Latinx communities, by harnessing its business, policy, data, and philanthropic expertise.
“We are excited to work with JPMorgan Chase. The company’s focus on providing meaningful capital to support underrepresented entrepreneurs aligns with Visible Hands’ core value that inclusion improves innovation. We are honored to be on this journey with JPMorgan Chase and its incredible team,” said Daniel Acheampong, Co-Founder and General Partner at Visible Hands.
“Building a diverse pipeline of innovative founders of color and women founders is key to fostering an inclusive economy,” said Cate Costa, Vice President, Global Small Business Philanthropy at JPMorgan Chase. “Visible Hands’ inaugural fellowship program gives more people a fair shot at opportunity, strengthening the communities where we do business. We’re excited to see what these entrepreneurs accomplish after completing the fellowship.”
After a six-week application period, Visible Hands received upwards of 900 applications from talented, diverse founders from across the world. Currently, Visible Hands is in its selection process and will be announcing its inaugural cohort at the end of July. During the Visible Hands fellowship program, a cohort of ~30 selected fellows will receive an initial $25,000 investment upfront to start building their ventures, searching for co-founders, and securing customer validation. The initial investment is provided to allow fellows to commit to building their company full-time and provide a runway for the 14-week fellowship. At the conclusion of the fellowship, the entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their ventures to Visible Hand’s Investment Advisory Committee and potentially earn an additional $150,000 of pre-seed investment. Following the fellowship period, Visible Hands will continue to support the fellows in securing additional capital and providing strategic customer introductions to enable growth.
Furthermore, Visible Hands will provide access to its ecosystem — a diverse network of over 600 industry experts, entrepreneurs, and investors. With this network, the entrepreneurs at Visible Hands can find mentors and possibly board members or first hires for their organizations.
The inaugural program will run from September 13, 2021 — December 17, 2021.
