I work many hours during the night in front of a computer screen, and the bright light has always been a killer for my eyes. Editing documents, reading email, looking through facebook, editing code, can be a challenge when staring at bright white light while everything else is dark.

Below are some ways to ‘go dark’ or minimize blue light on your screen so that it is easier on the eyes

  1. Dark mode on outlook.com (via settings)
  2. Dark mode on youtube.com (via settings)
  3. Dark mode on facebook.com (via Stylish)
  4. Dark mode on google.com, Google Docs, and Google Sheets, Google Calendar (via Stylish)
  5. Dark mode on everything Windows (via Win10 Settings)
  6. Dark mode on the Chrome browser (via Chrome Theme)
  7. Using f.lux (application)

We will cover the first 2 in this post.

Dark mode on outlook.com

Open outlook.com on your web browser, and go to the gear box (settings) on the upper right. Switch on ‘Dark mode’ That’s it. I haven’t tested out the mobile app because I don’t use the outlook app, but I wouldn’t be surprised if something similar was possible.

Dark mode on youtube.com (also mobile app)

Open youtube.com on your browser, click on your account logo at the far upper right, and then go down to ‘Dark theme: off’, click on it, and then switch the Dark theme ‘on’. You can also do the same on the mobile app (at least for Android). Go to own logo>Settings>General>Dark theme. That’s all!

The next post will show how dark mode can be used via the Stylish extension using the Google Chrome browser.
