How Samsung and Austin Grew Up Together

When Samsung set out to find a home for its semiconductor manufacturing facility, we knew what we needed. To build the crucial chips that power Samsung’s mobile phones, tablets and other electronic devices, we had to set up shop wherever we could find hundreds and eventually thousands of hardworking builders and engineers to take on this complex, vitally important production.

And that’s how we landed in Texas.

Over the past 20 years, what was originally a 300-acre cornfield has become the site of 3,500 employees and thousands more contractors who design, engineer and build some of Samsung’s most high-precision technology. And since then, we’ve invested more than $17 billion, creating $4 billion in economic activity for the region each year — the annual equivalent of 10 South by Southwest festivals.

We’re proud that our employees and partners think of Samsung as part of the fabric of this community, because we know that our growth could only have happened with their support and enthusiasm.

Between our workers here in Austin, the local schools, public officials from around the state, and many others, we have seen the incredible benefits of establishing a truly committed partnership with a place and its people.

As Samsung continues to expand our presence in the United States, we look to our roots in Texas as a true example of lasting collaboration and the growth it enables for our company, and just as importantly for the communities we serve.
