The Importance of Having a Cultural Mission
Vision Hill Advisors is an emerging crypto asset and blockchain focused fund of funds. Vision Hill brings together a team with extensive experience in traditional financial markets, a deep passion and understanding of crypto and digital asset markets, and a history of risk and portfolio management.
That’s what we do. But it’s not the why. The idea of having a mission is most commonly associated with a B2C consumer brand or a Silicon Valley startup with a grand vision to change the world or make it a better place. It’s not something you normally see in the investment management business. Is that because it is implied that the mission is to just make as much money as possible? For some, maybe that is the case, and, to be clear, I am not suggesting that mission and profits have to be mutually exclusive. Quite the opposite, actually.
For a consumer brand, it is important for customers to be able to identify with the cultural values and mission of the brand to create a deeper sense of affinity, generating brand loyalty by creating a shared sense of purpose or inclusion in that vision. Some of the strongest and most iconic brands in the world like Apple (Think different) and Airbnb (Belong Anywhere) have achieved that status by clearly articulating their mission and providing a product, service, or making strategic decisions based on how those decisions map to that mission.
We believe that mission is equally as important to our business at Vision Hill.
What is our Mission?
Vision Hill Advisors aims to lead investors into the future of digital assets.
How do we deliver on that Mission?
The first and most important part for us is to be a leader. The future of anything is unpredictable, uncertain, and unknown. It is fair to say that applies even more to a new asset class. We embrace the role of being a leader and a guiding light as we navigate this unknown future together. We define that leadership in 5 main ways:
Leading opportunity
We believe the digital asset class is still in its infancy and thus remains an inefficient market in many ways. Vision Hill seeks to maximize this opportunity set by broadly leveraging the best minds in the space, while minimizing the idiosyncratic operational, security, and investment strategy risks inherent in individual funds. We aim to offer what we believe to be the highest quality avenue of opportunity to allocate to the nascent digital asset class.
Leading process
We believe in having a clearly defined, disciplined, and repeatable investment process. We bring our experience from traditional markets to this new asset class and couple that experience with our deep passion for crypto and our understanding of the complexities and challenges that are present in this new space. We have also implemented an institutional quality process for diligence. We believe this process will differentiate us within the market and serve as a guide for fund managers as to what to expect when the “wall of institutional capital” descends on the market.
Leading voice
We believe education is extremely important. As a bridge from the old world to the new world, we enthusiastically embrace our role as an educator of new entrants to the space. We also view our role as a leading voice and thought leader within the crypto community itself, actively participating in industry debate and broadly categorizing the investment landscape for purposes of comparison.
Leading standards
We are an active member of the IMDDA (Investment Management Due Diligence Association) and of AIMA (Alternative Investment Management Association), two leading investment management due diligence associations. We are also a member of the AIMA Digital Asset and Blockchain (DAB) Core Group: A group of industry professionals working to establish a consolidated industry position, educational guides, sound practices, and industry market standards for due diligence in the emerging digital asset class and the operational application of blockchain and distributed ledger technology.
Leading performance
We believe our disciplined and repeatable investment process and our clearly defined mission, combined with our establishment of, and adherence to, industry best practice standards of due diligence, and our market leading voice within the crypto community will lead to superior performance.
PURPOSEFUL INVESTING
The last part of mission relates to what originally drew us into this space in the first place: the technology itself and its potential to be a foundational building block for how our global society organizes itself today and well into the future.
Internally, we call this “Purposeful Investing”. We act as a bridge for capital to flow into this new asset class and the crypto fund manager community, which then subsequently flows down into the projects themselves via their respective investments. This further flows to the development teams, computer scientists, token economists, cryptography experts, distributed system experts, and many others who are “on the ground floor” building protocols, applications, decentralized incentive models, and businesses that can truly change the world.
