Vision + Voice Day 056

MDCCCII

Today is Founder’s Day for West Point — The U.S. Military Academy. This ring is proof of my connection to the 213 year-old American icon & institution. My ring contains little fan-fare and is made of modest silver. The stone I chose was granite — the same stone that many of the buildings on campus are made from.

Pictured here is the West Point crest which was not introduced until 1898. Smack in the middle is the helmet of Pallas Athena. Athena, a mythological goddess, is associated with the arts of war, and her helmet signifies wisdom and learning. She is also the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic war, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill in ancient Greek religion and mythology.
