How has your advocacy work for economic empowerment through STEM for all young children across the globe made an impact on you personally?
Tiffani: STEM is generational wealth. There are millions of unfilled STEM jobs. Therefore, there are opportunities for young children to start early and build their STEM skills to be able to shape their future.
In what ways have you gotten girls & Women into STEM?
Tiffani: I have been a part of various organizations that encourage girls in STEM. I am working to inspire the next generation of female engineers and scientists! I am an online STEM role model in the international FabFems database. I have an online profile as well as the option for students and educators to contact me to serve as a role model to young students interested in a career in STEM.
I have presented and performed various STEM activities to various girls scout troops. It is also through being a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Women in Nuclear (WIN), and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) that I have been able to help to inspire and encourage girls and women into going into STEM.
The children’s book you’ve written, What Can I Be? STEM Careers from A to Z has obtained outstanding reviews. What was the experience like for you to get the book complete?
Tiffani: It is a great feeling of accomplishment and a stepping stone to fulfilling my purpose by completing my book to share with our youth about STEM and what they can be in their future. Seeing that many children never met an engineer and see the importance of STEM representation, it was great to be able to put it into writing and make an impact through my book.
Any upcoming school visits or book readings you’re gearing up for and excited about?
Tiffani: Yes, I have some upcoming school visits and book reading, with various Black History Month, Black Children’s Book Week, Engineer’s Week, Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, and Women’s History Month activities and events.
What do you want your legacy to be as a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators?
Tiffani: I want my legacy to be that I was able to tell my story of the importance of STEM representation to our children in order to shape their future as STEM leaders.
