Pop music is a huge part of our culture and lately pop music has been so boring. Could up and coming pop artist Alexx Mack save pop music? With her first EP, titled “Like We’re Famous,” out late last year, Mack has been hard at work making more music to please her rapidly growing fanbase. Her fans, which she calls her “Mack Daddies” share a relationship with her that most artists take for granted. Mack takes the time out of her day to respond to fans’ tweets, answer questions, and even Snapchat them back. “I am going to continue to talk to them and nurture my relationship with them as long as they’re around,” said Mack.

Mack is currently not signed to a label but she hasn’t let that stop her from making and releasing music. “It’s a double edged sword,” said Mack. In one sense it allows for a lot of creative freedom, “I could literally record into my iPhone and put something out tomorrow.” However, it’s a lot harder to advertise yourself and brand yourself without the help of a record label. For now, she’s just waiting for the right record label to come along.

“Anyone who thinks a comparison is an insult is not thinking about it correctly. When someone compares you to someone, that’s them saying ‘Hey! I hear the good parts about this person in you.” Every new artist has to deal with the comparison to other artists, but Mack has done nothing but handle it with grace. Being compared to artists like Charli XCX, Betty Who, and Katy Perry, gives Mack some big shoes to fill, but she definitely has the talent to not only fill those shoes, but make them overflow.

While listening to the “Like We’re Famous” EP, you can’t help but want to dance. It’s makes the perfect playlist for any turn up function. “I write about everything that happens to me. I’ve experienced a lot of romance, a lot of heartbreak and so I write a lot about those things.” “I do what I do so that other people can feel what I feel.” The songwriting process is never an easy one and it’s even harder getting into the music industry. Mack has had music ingrained into her being since she was very young. She knew that this is what she would be doing this, she just didn’t know if it would work. “I’m going to try until I die.”

So what can expect from Mack before this summer? A new EP, along with a few features on some other people’s songs. Some live show dates will be announced, so let’s hope we get a Chicago date. “It’s a dream to be out there playing for you guys.” Alexx will also be gracing the main stage at Long Beach Pride. What is she most excited for? For her fans to see her music grow along with her. At only 22 years old Mack is ready to take on the world of pop music and change the game and we can’t wait to report all about it.
