What Else Can We Do to Stop Graham-Cassidy?

After failing in their previous attempts to strip health care coverage from millions of Americans, the Senate GOP is back at it. By most analyses, the new Graham-Cassidy bill is worse than earlier bills, with massive cuts to state funding for Medicaid and revocation of protections for pre-existing conditions. Senate leadership again wants to push forward with no hearings, debate, or analysis from the Congressional Budget Office.

Health care advocates and progressive organizations are mounting a massive push to stop the bill before its September 30 deadline. Rallies are being staged outside the Capitol in Washington, and organizations are asking their supporters to call their senators. Phones are ringing off the hook, and many calls are getting through. However, many people are facing busy signals as well.

What else can be done? Members of Congress have local offices located throughout their states and districts — often less than a 30-minute drive for constituents. Getting supporters to show up in person is an under-used tactic that can have extremely powerful results.

VisitThem.org is a tool that helps organizations easily mobilize in-person office visits, either as individual drop-ins or more organized group events. Armed with talking points and materials to leave behind, these face-to-face visits can cut through the clamor more than a petition signature or a phone call.

Sign your organization up for a free VisitThem.org trial today. Within minutes, you can set up a campaign that turns your supporters into an army of local lobbyists — hopefully delivering a fatal blow to the GOP’s latest assault on Americans’ health care.
