Car Photography

Passion for me arrives through mobility; especially sleek design, customized vehicles, specifically cars and trucks. I have always had a knack for car photography; enthusiasm to me can be portrayed through the design of cars and trucks. My specific focus on this blog is over the unique fundamentals, and creativity that can be seen from one art form to another, through the designer’s eye and the car he beholds in his mind.

I admire images like a couple of these pictures presented below, taken by photographer, Graham Thorp:

The images are both of the same car and generally are made up the same color values, however the image on the left also includes, greens and reds. The implied lines follow along the mountains with the defined lines of the wall in the left image connect the image and give it more depth, where as the right image is almost flat, but by the position of the Bentley the space is divided evenly to provide an almost symmetrical display.

I prefer incorporating a great deal of design into my works with car imagery, as Thorp presents the majority of the images on his site.

A good way of learning more techniques is sometimes to observe and analyze the styles of other artists, some whom inspire you, others whom you want to base ideas to work from.

Uses of the environment as the two images compared above by Vadim Daniel with the one I’ve taken of the 2012 Scion tC, specifically how light can interact, from sunlight to overcast or clear skies, present the cars differently. Reflection of light of the various curves and angles among the body of the car create variations in shadow, in addition the angle or position of the vehicle in the image, here the BMW-1M is presented in both a two-point perspective and a three-point perspective.

Three main examples of linear perspective.

Additionally there are forms of car photography that take on interior shots to present the viewer with a feel for the vehicle, in imagery like this, photos can include, but not always, an actor or someone to incorporate the ideal presentation of the interior with a human experience. Car Body Design.com presents the BMW-i8 and the design concepts of the model, an example from the article includes an interior shot.

Here are two examples I’ve done:
