René Magritte is a household name as the lead of the surrealists, even for those who aren’t as familiar with art knowledge. He is known for his paintings of illogical scenes created through tampering with scale and placing unrelated objects in an irrelevant scene. Le Miroir Magique is a part of Magritte’s series of ‘word paintings’ created in the late 1920’s.

Magritte never had any interest in typography despite the use of text in his paintings, he in fact had an interest in the relationship between the painted image of fiction and the visible word of reality and the conflict between them. I find this theme really profound and extremely interesting concept to work with.
