How you go about creating content can be as interesting as the content you create

I meant to mention one thing …

In the previous post that set the tone for this post I forgot to mention one important thing…it is important because it has greatly influenced the whole process of creating content.

From my very first converstaions with Huw and the team at Head Resourcing our activity has been aligned behind creating a book.

Why a book?

If we are planning on creating a lot of content…why not align that behind something bigger?

With a little planning up front, a little of structure and a little more effort we could do it but it would mean being a little clever.

Plus it got us all excited, and there is a lot to be said for that ☺

So if we were going to be writing a book in the process of executing against a content marketing campaign we had to re-think a few things….

Start with the end in mind

I’m curious…does this make sense?

You can read the small chunks here

And the bigger chunks here

Re-thinking how we approached this

When we looked at the traditional approach to publishing and content marketing we found a few issues:

Iterate, Iterate, Iterate

Under this new model the emphasis became to get ideas out of our heads and into the hands of the audience as quickly as possible to determine what was resonating and what wasn’t to help inform the future direction of content.

This also brought about a couple of advantages:

But there is no doubt that it can seem like a lot of work…

How do you scale your efforts?

Some of this content and visuals have been used in internal presentations and all of them will be used to create a SlideShare once the ideas have been ironed out.

I’ll dig deeper into these ideas over the coming weeks but next I will be looking at the the bit that excites me the most…the shift from text to visuals.

As we go through this process it is our aim to better ideas that resonate with our audience — that means you.

So I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback either here on Medium or over on Twitter:
