The Spiel:

This infographic on SaaS Startup Metrics modestly ties in with the goal of Visually Explained; To distill overly complex topics into simple, concise explainers. We’ve had a lot of success with executing this goal in the convoluted world of security (process of hacking, cross-site request forgery, SQL injection) so we decided to extrapolate that idea to other areas, today we’ve tackled the complex and murky area of SaaS startup metrics.

I’ve teamed up with our Director of Finance, Clodagh Monks, who has spent a great deal of time digesting information on startup metrics since Barricades’ own inception. Very few resources on startup metrics break the metrics down into a timeline of use, even fewer portray this timeline from the perspective of the startup itself. In an attempt to humanise the concept of startup metrics we’ve designed a glossary of some of the most crucial SaaS metrics needed, and divided them into a timeline of use throughout the lifecycle of a startup, we’ve essentially told the story of a startup, through metrics.

“You jump off a cliff and you assemble an airplane on the way down.”

– Reid Hoffman, Linkedin founder on startups.

We understand that running a startup is already a complicated process, metrics don’t need to be.
