While Bioinformatics is the interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding large and complex sets of biological data, including genomic data,

Translational Bioinformatics optimises the transformation of increasingly voluminous biomedical data and genomic data into proactive, predictive, preventive, and participatory health.

It is about mining and analysing biomedical data to formulate knowledge and medical tools that scientists, clinicians, and patients can utilise. This includes finding similarities in patient populations, interpreting biological information to suggest treatments and predict health outcomes.

Inadequate infrastructure, including a lack of facilities and tools to conduct clinical research, inadequately trained workforce are some of the barriers to overcome - as connecting the molecular world to the clinical world and vice versa will undoubtedly benefit human health in the near future.
