ViTAL’s 3rd annual Husky Health Innovation Challenge, nearly a year in the making, hosted our keynote PITCH DAY on Saturday, March 27th, 2021. With a total of 88 student participants across 8 universities, 23 teams, 9 sponsors, 5 finalist teams, 15 judges, 5 mentors, and so much more, our competition was one for the books! Here are some of the highlights:

Winners

1st Place: NOBA —Niva Haber, Oliver Pour, Ben Reydler, Ashya Singh

NOBA is a voice-powered and community-integrated etho-robot for older adults. The tool features community accountability to encourage behavior change, and also is designed to provide meal reminders, food tracking, weekly “health scores” and analyzed reports, share recipes, and promote independence.

2nd Place: EatRightEva Kuruvilla, Debby Nguyen, Sohum Sheth, Sophia Tan

EatRight is a telehealth platform for nutrition in older adults that features tailored nutrition recommendations, printable weekly grocery plans, personalized support with a dietician, and a senior-friendly design.

3rd Place: Sage Snacks Raymond Lin, Shreya Nair, Elizabeth Si

Sage Snacks is a healthy personalized snack service for older adults, to help provide targeted nutrients based around unique health needs of older individuals. Sage Snacks also includes a socializing component through planned group meals to help alleviate loneliness.

Runner Ups

Merci Arvind Katta, Janki Patel, Kevin Kim, Joon Seok Lee

Merci is an application addressing nutrition needs in cancer patients. The app offers streamlined provider communication, credible health information, and monitoring of dietary intake and side effects.

Geriatric Nutrition Solution Tablet Sam Calao, Kaleigh Pinzon, Nate Smith, Maddie Wong

The product proposed included a touchscreen tablet with camera and speakers, wifi and cellular data, and a barcode/QR reader. Paired with software including personalized meal recommendations, delivery, and consumption tracking, this device is meant to be a one-stop-shop for all things nutrition.
