I was a newly wed when my husband was promoted by the bank he worked for. We moved hundreds of miles from our familiar, bustling community to a small town hundreds of miles away.

I didn’t have a job and spent my days trying to be a good housewife. It was brutally lonely. Fortunately we soon found a welcoming church community and my social life improved.

We met other young couples, similar in age and quickly became friends. We were in each other’s homes all the time, sharing tips, going out and having a truly wonderful time.

I also became very close to one of the ladies. We shared common interests as we had previously lived in the same town, although we hadn’t known each other at the time.

I trusted her completely. We even planned to have our babies at the same time. That plan didn’t work, but that’s a story for another time.

After a few months I felt something was off in our relationship. I didn’t know it at the time but she was giving all the signs that she no longer wanted to have anything to do with me. She just wasn’t brave enough to own it. Or…
