From OpenSea transaction volumes reaching historical highs to NBA star Steph Curry’s Bored Ape Yacht Club Twitter avatar, NFT avatars are the talk of the town and prices continue to break new highs. NFT Avatars are officially a new asset category in the cryptocurrency world. There are currently more than 250 marketplaces to purchase NFT avatars and dozens of new NFT avatars collections appear each day. Here are a few examples of collections that are worth checking out and adding to your social media handles.

The Bitcoin of NFT Avatars: CryptoPunks

CryptoPunks was released by Larva Labs in June 2017 and is known as the first-ever official NFT. CryptoPunks are purchased via ERC-20 contracts and each of the 10,000 CryptoPunks has a unique 24x24, 8-bit style pixel art image. Initially, anyone with an Ethereum wallet could receive CryptoPunks for free but now they can only be purchased at a market rate. The current base price for a CryptoPunk is 143 ETH.

Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC)

BAYC was officially launched this year on April 30 and is a collection of 10,000 unique Bored Ape NFTs. The design of each Ape draws inspiration from punk rock and hip-hop. Each Bored Ape includes more than 170 possible features such as hats, eyes, clothing, and backgrounds. BAYC Apes can be seen as a status symbol, when you purchase a BAYC NFT, you automatically become a member of their BAYC club and enjoy member benefits. The initial selling price is approximately $200.

EtherRock

EtherRock was first launched on the Ethereum network in 2017 and was forgotten shortly after the project was released. These NFT rocks can be bought and sold directly with no marketplace. According to the EtherRock website, “These virtual rocks serve NO PURPOSE beyond being able to be brought and sold, and giving you a strong sense of pride in being an owner of 1 of the only 100 rocks in the game :)” Tech entrepreneur Justin Sun also recently added EtherRock NFT. This NFT collection series has a purchase price of about $500,000 US dollars with an average price of 750 ETH. These rocks can only be purchased at etherrock.com

0N1 Force

0N1 Force was launched on August 20 and was auctioned for 0.0777 ETH. It sold out within five minutes of the sale and caused the Ethereum gas fees to skyrocket. If you want to get a 0N1 Force during the opening time of sale, you also need to pay a minimum handling fee of 0.5 ETH. What makes 0N1 unique is its community engagement where pre-sales are shared with community members four days in advance. To qualify for their pre-sales, you must be an active member of their Discord server and post about them frequently on Twitter.

Weird Whales

Weird Whales was founded by a 12-year-old boy from London named Benyamin Ahmed who created and sold a series of NFT digital art during his vacation. Weird Whales is a collection of 3,350 pixelated whale paintings and is sold at an average price of 0.025 ETH. So far Benyamin has earned 80 ETH for his project while only paying $300 in ETH gas fees for his whales.

World of Women

World of Women was created by digital artist Yam Karkai. The series includes 10,000 randomly generated various rare digital female avatars each with unique combinations of up to 11 features and 189 attributes. You can choose from 14 skin tones, 25 hairstyles, 23 facial features, and 28 eye combinations. What makes World of Women special from other NFTs and their membership clubs which are based on three key avatar characteristics: The royalty club distributes 50% of OpenSea’s secondary sales royalties to members; the investor club supports other female artists in the NFT space through profits from their WOW Fund, and the curator’s club helps determine which art the WOW Fund buys and each curator has the opportunity to support their favorite artists.
