Tips for Inventor No 1: Mind is Chief
Step: 1 Conceptualization
Over the last two hundred years or so we have seen an explosion of new inventions in the marketplace. Most of them are unique and clever. Indigenous invention such as the iPad, Segway, electric cars, ASIMO robot, 3D printers, RFID chips, laser cutter, optic fibre, 3D animation and many more have been widely made available in the market. They have benefited mankind in so many ways.
Likewise, we have also experienced the invention of new processes. Soft products such as the internet, social media like Instagram, Facebook, Google, YouTube, Skype, Whatsapp, WeChat and many more have benefited mankind.
We have seen new invention in practically in every field and in every sector in the world. We have seen new technology developed for computer, mobile phone, medical, education, agriculture, transportation, information, communication, land, sea and air vehicles, water, environment, health, food, sports, energy, nanotech, biotech, financial, engineering, space and many more. We have all gained from these developments.
But when we see a good invention, we must realize that it is actually a creation of mankind. It originated from us. Let’s take the new invention of a thumb drive. The USB flash stick was first put into the market by Phison Electronics from Taiwan. But the man behind this creation is Dato’ Pua Khein Seng from Sekinchan, Malaysia.
What Tan Sri Tony Fernandez has done with Air Asia is also very impressive. He has built a failed government-linked company with just 2 aeroplanes into one of the most profitable airlines in the world. A simple tagline like “Now Everyone Can Fly” became phenomenal. The success story of Air Asia is acknowledged around the world.
This example tells us that behind every successful company there is a unique product. The innovative product is the creation of a technopreneur. A technopreneur is a person with no difference from you and I. Just like anyone else.
This has also clearly shown us that it is the people that drive a company. All new ideas, new inventions, new products, new processes, new concepts, new blueprint, new designs, new slogans, new cry, new method, new channels, new trend, new look, new melody, new smell, new sight, new taste, new touch, new look, new colour, new process are the results of the creation of men.
What I wished to point out here is that all inventions that we enjoyed yesterday, today and even in the near future, are innovation created by human beings. Hence, the human mind is the most powerful tool in the world. Our mind is like a magical toolbox. It has all the tool that you need to create a new invention.
On the same note, it is also sad to learn that when a business fails, it is also the doing created by us (man). We make the decision for our business and therefore we must take the blame.
Making a decision is crucial for the well-being of a new invention, a product or a company. In this complex world, life is difficult. Making the right decision is always difficult to come by. Only the fittest will survive in this dog bite dog world. Therefore it is not possible to find a roadmap that guarantees success. You need a lorry load of will-power to climb to the top.
But there are many ways and routes to reach success in life. You just need to be your own driver. All consequences that pops-up in-front of you (mentally) are the results of your own doing. If you make good decisions you will reap good results. The same goes for bad ones. If you make bad decisions you get burnt.
That’s the power of the mind. It attracts what you desire to get. It is programmed to influence you without you knowing it. You may not know but unconsciously your work and behaviour will also influence all those around you. Your mind worked in a mystical way. The same can be said about the things you don’t like. Your mind is also hard-wired to get rid of things you don’t like. Hence, if you are asked to do something that you do not like. The chance is that you won’t do it.
The mind is the forerunner of all things. Yet not many know it’s potential. The scientist has discovered that we only use a small fraction of our mind’s potential. We only use 1% of its full capacity. Yes, you read correctly. Only one percentage! Renowned scientist like Albert Einstein uses a little bit more. He uses up to 3%. It is so unfortunate that we are blessed with an intellectual mind yet we are not tapping on this natural gift. This is really sad.
However, on the bright side, we still have 99% of our mind not utilized. In this sense, you should be happy. You still have a lot of brains left un-used.
As long as your mind is still ticking, you can still work and contribute to society. Take a look at the late Prof Stephen Hawking. He is a theoretical physicist, a cosmologist who has suffered from motor neuron disease where he is almost entirely paralyzed. He could only communicate with another person through a speech-generating device. Yet he is considered one of the greatest scientists in this modern era. Even though he is a vegetable for many years, he managed to live till a ripe age of 77 years old. This is the power of the will of his mind.
