The Next Big Thing in Hospitality

If you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’re trying to keep up with the trends. Simply put, the innovator inside you is trying to get ahead of the crowd. But when you type “next big thing” into google, the products that pop up can often seem abstract, ridiculous, or just plain stupid. Luckily, the team at Vivaio has weeded out the fads from the facts so you don’t have to. So here you have it: we’ve zeroed in on two industry disruptors shaping the way our hospitality industry functions.

Artificial Intelligence

Let’s start with the “flashy” next big thing: Artificial Intelligence, or ‘AI’. We’re sure you’ve heard of it before, because everybody’s practically obsessed with futuristic and idealistic projections of how robots will shape our future. Even though these wild predictions are often nothing more than speculation, the fact remains that our lives are going to get a lot more tech-ed up in years to come, but perhaps not in the way we think. AI is already all around us: on-screen helpdesks, in-room assistants like Google’s Alexa, and integrated robots like Apple’s Siri. We can expect a lot of similar developments, like round-the-clock virtual concierges, to become staples in a rapidly modernizing industry.

But don’t panic: just because robots will be helping us build a more efficient future, it doesn’t mean that jobs for humans in the hospitality industry will dwindle down to zero. Rather, we’ll have to adapt to a world that has all the easy tasks already done and pre-programmed and open ourselves up to the possibility of around 20+ million new jobs by the year 2030. As long as your business is open to the idea of change (and since you’re reading an entrepreneurship blog, I’m guessing the answer is a resounding “yes”), you’ll be A-OK.

Blockchain

A less dystopian disruptor is blockchain technology, which promises a rapid shift towards decentralized security in many sectors, including the hospitality sector. This technology has the potential to reduce check-in times as well as prices. The shift towards blockchain promises elusive savings for the hotel and the customer, better loyalty programs, and overall better security. This technology is also more resistant to hackers, who typically focus on a centralized entity of information, which doesn’t truly exist in blockchain.

Oftentimes, entrepreneurs underestimate the power of blockchain technology simply because it’s not as flashy as the idea of having the coolest new robots running Hunger-Games-like hotels. The truth is, no matter what angle you look at it from, blockchain is surely going to be the next big thing, and we don’t want you to be the business to fall behind.

If we were a different type of content creator, we’d use up more of your time by bombarding you with completely useless fads; but Vivaio isn’t Vivaio without our practicality and no-bullshit-honesty. Instead, we’ll just stress the importance of these two key disruptors and their clear future as complete game changers in the hospitality industry. But don’t worry, if ya don’t believe us now, we’ll just see you at “I told you so” o’clock. ;)
