Kit Colbert (He/Him), VMware’s Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer drives the company’s long-term tech strategy and innovation. His role at VMware has evolved over the past 20 years, beginning as an intern in 2002 and eventually progressing to the positions of Cloud CTO and General Manager of Cloud-Native Apps. Now as the CTO of VMware, Colbert is at the helm of the cloud and subscription-centric R&D organization’s transformation, where he oversees research, design, development, VMware Engineering Services, and ESG commitments. Kit had the opportunity to be the interim design leader for the Central Design Organization in 2022 and has been a strong advocate for design ever since.

In this episode, we engaged in a conversation with Kit, delving into the valuable lessons and stories he has accumulated over the years through the prism of design at VMware. We gained insights from his perspective on:

  • What was his experience taking on the position of VMware’s interim Design Organization leader before our current Design VP, Beverly May, came in?
  • How has his understanding of design influenced his approach to leadership?
  • How can design help progress VMware’s goals in the future?
