Sarah Plantenberg is a Senior Staff Designer at VMware with a 20+ year career working with startups and enterprises, alike. Sarah’s career has led her to design products and solutions, services, teams, businesses, and cultures. Sarah's specialty is putting all these skills to play to help organizations transform their business outcomes by taking a human-centered, outside-in approach to digital transformation, and the tools that support success with this complex undertaking. Sarah is an avid inventor, holding 9 technical and user experience patents with IBM, and co-founder of the IBM Garage Methodology.

In this episode, we chatted with Sarah about the sense and response of culture at companies and how those impact designers. This led to discussions around:

  • what is culture? common misperceptions of what culture is?
  • what’s the relationship between culture and business outcomes?
  • what can you do if you sense misalignment?
  • what are some of the implications of these topics on enterprise design?
