Me and my foxxy buddies

Who are they?

Holy crap, have you guys noticed women killing the rock game lately? Enter: this debut self-titled record from AZ natives-turned-Los Angeles dwellers Foxx Bodies. This four-piece makes feminist, politically-driven, culturally relevant punk music that also could have existed alongside Riot Grrrl bands in Seattle during the 90s.

This record has a song for everyone — there are tracks for those who disappointed their parents (and, conversely, a song for those whose parents disappointed them!!!), for people who miss their childhood for reasons unknown, for women who really just need a second to confront men for their shitty behavior (my personal favorite kind of music!!!), and so much more.

My Take

Back in college, one of my roommates introduced me to the Riot Grrrl manifesto. It begins with this: “Because us girls crave records…that speak to US that WE feel included in and can understand in our own ways.”

I also grew up doing a ~traditionally female-dominated sport~ and a common conversation we used to have was this concept of “aggressive femininity” — basically the idea that women can either be aesthetically pleasing OR strong, but never both. Foxx Bodies stomps on this binary idea, which is why I love this self-titled record so much!!!!

There’s something really empowering about seeing other women fearlessly sharing their emotions and experiences in a way that — to circle back — I can feel included in and that I can relate to in my own way. Trust me, every lady owes it to themselves to get into at least one feminist punk band!

Favorite Tracks:

“Annie” If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to go see Foxx Bodies live. You will not regret it.

“Bad Kid” The hook of this song gets me every time because let’s be real, I’ve been a bad kid too. This one’s only available on vinyl!
