In this day and age, security of information and privacy are becoming increasingly rare and in demand.

Owners of Amazon products, like the Echo speaker, will be conscious of the fact that Alexa can potentially pose a significant threat to one’s privacy. This makes learning how to delete recording on Alexa a necessity.

It’s no secret that Amazon routinely keeps records of all Alexa voice recordings, which need to be manually deleted if the user has no need of them. So, without any further ado, it’s time to address the question at the heart of the matter; how do you delete activity on Alexa app?

How do I delete my voice history on Alexa?

In the past, it used to be a little difficult to execute the exact procedure for managing and clearing one’s voice recording history on Alexa. However, after recent updates the process has become much more intuitive and streamlined.

Before starting to understand how to clear your Alexa history, it would be much more convenient to activate the feature to remove recordings through voice commands. It is possible to delete the very last voice recording by issuing the voice command “Alexa, delete what I just said.” However, for more flexibility in deleting voice history, one should go to the Alexa app and simply follow these steps:

1. Open Settings

2. Go to Alexa Account -> Alexa Privacy -> Review Voice History

3. Toggle on ‘Enable Detection by Voice’

How to delete my voice history on Alexa?

It’s possible to use simple voice commands to conveniently delete one’s voice history with a decent amount of variation in approach.

Deleting voice history for the day

In order to delete all voice recordings for the day, the user simply needs to give the voice command: “Alexa, delete everything I said today”. This command will cause Alexa to delete all voice recordings from the start of that day, 12 am, till the point in time the voice command was issued.

So, it could be beneficial to make this purging of data part of one’s daily routine; for example, doing so after returning from college or work. Regular removal of data in this manner ensures any potentially sensitive recorded data is not compromised.

Deleting specific recordings from voice history

Some people might be interested in preserving certain voice recordings or commands issued throughout the day, in which case a total deletion of daily data isn’t feasible. Luckily, there is a workaround for this issue as well.

Open the Alexa app and access the menu from the top left corner of the screen and go to Settings -> Alexa Account -> History. A whole list of interactions and their associated transcripts will show up.

Tapping on any of these will provide a number of options, including playing the recording to hear its content as well as checking the date and time the file in question was recorded. The option of interest here will be the ‘Delete voice recording’ command which can be tapped to permanently erase the selected voice recording.
