How can art make an impact on a community? I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember. Because of that I’m going to be making a webcomic about short horror stories. I was inspired by the people who make horror webcomics. Though I didn’t see that many horror stories on Webtoon, so I decided to make one myself. I hope that this is going to impact the community because I am adding more stories into this community. I wish that I inspire more people to publish webcomics on Webtoon and grow the community. I’m doing this because I need to practice and develop my art skills but I never have time. By making this web comic, I will solve the problem of me not having time to practice my art. I will be working on this comic during class and after school. My plan is that I’ll try to upload short stories every Sunday. I expect this project to be difficult in that I’m always really busy, but I’ll make sure I get this project done on time. I’m really nervous about drawing almost everyday and posting my art but hopefully this prepares me for the future if I go into an art career.

MY WEBTOON

WEEK ONE

Planning is one of the most important parts of making a comic. I made progress to my goals this week by finishing my first chapter of my webtoon. A major lesson I learned is that deadlines are hard to complete. I was struggling in having the motivation to draw, but I pushed through and finished it. I also learned that I have to be on track with my drawing schedule or else I will fall behind and have more work to do near the end of the deadline. I had to stay up a little bit later than usual to finish the chapter. In the end it payed off and I hope to stay on track so that I won’t have to stay up late to finish a chapter.

WEEK THREE

I had to revise the comic because it didn’t make sense, but I finally published my comic. I didn’t have any time during week two to complete my first but I’m glad it is done. I started to work on my chapter two and I’m going to push this chapter to finish but Sunday. I will work on about two pages a day to finish it. Once I get this two part story done, I have another short story inspired by a song i’ve listened to recently. I’m excited to start on this project but I need to remember to follow a strict plan.

WEEK FOUR

I finally finished chapter 2 and I am happy with how it turned out. For some reason during this chapter I had major art block and didn’t have the motivation to draw. I had to rearrange my schedule multiple times. Because of that I think planning is the most important step in making a comic. Everything depends on how you plan. Whether that is when you draw or when you plan your storyline.

TED TALK

I’ve always loved drawing. In my earlier years I’ve always wanted to be a comic artist but I never knew how. With this project I was able to fulfill one of my dreams and make my own comic. The comic I made was a horror one. To make my comic I originally had to work on it every school day and on the weekends depending on how my progress was during the week. I had a long break due to expeditions and spring break which held me back. At first I was supposed to get a chapter done every week but it stressed me out so I changed it to whenever I could get it done. In total I have gotten two chapters done and counting. I hope to continue my progress and continue my comic. A life lesson I learned during this project is that planning is the most important part of making a comic.

First of all, Planning is essential when it comes to making a comic. I learned this lesson when I first started my comic. I was very unorganized when I had to figure out my storyline. My first story was a mess when it first started. I had no idea what I wanted to do until I started planning. This taught me a huge lesson because after I planned out everything, the project became a lot easier to handle. I wasn’t confused out about the storyline or the overall drawing process. I had a clear guide to follow and it made the whole process easier. This connects back to my thesis because planning shaped my whole comic. The information I learned will also be helpful in everyday life because almost everything needs planning.

When you have complications in your plan, you should go through it calmly. An example of this was when I had to redo all of my pages for chapter one. This really set me back by a week and I started to get really stressed. Luckily I didn’t have a super strict deadline, so I had enough time to replan my schedule. By making plans, it helped me relieve a lot of my stress on trying to improve the pages so that it would flow better. In the future I also shouldn’t rush because if I’m not putting my all in it the pages won’t turn out good. Another example of a setback is that all of the days that I couldn’t draw. There was a week where I couldn’t draw at all. This was another road bump that I had no control over. The way I dealt with this was to draw more everyday. I planned how many pages I had to draw each day. It was a little overwhelming at times, but I’m glad I am proud of the final product. I’m glad I learned that that planning was important early on because it saved me a lot of time and effort.

To conclude, planning is the most important part of making a comic because it is fundamental, even if you have setbacks. Even if you aren’t making a comic, planning can help everyone stay stress free because it keeps you on track and you don’t have to wing your plans.
