Dear Donald Trump,

How is your day today? My name is Nicholas Lau and I am a 9th grader at Summit Shasta. In my English class, we have been completing a project about wars and should we get involved with them. In this project, I have been learning about wars by reading real life stories and articles about war. Our project asked us to consider the essential question, should the US intervene with wars? Through this project, I realized that the US should not get involved in wars. I wanted to write to you, specifically, because after I read this one article, it says that the government does not support veterans. Therefore, the US should not get into wars because the government doesn’t support our veterans with physical health problems and a lot of people who served in a war suffer from PTSD and many other problems.

The US should not get involved in wars because the government does not support our veterans and a lot of people are dying in wars. When I was reading an article called “A Legacy of Pride and Pain”, it says “More than half of the 2.6 million Americans veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan struggle with physical or mental health problems of their experience fighting in the war. They believe the government is failing to meet their needs.” If veterans are not getting the proper cure for their health problems, people should not go into wars because if the veterans are not getting treatment then the others will not get treated if they are hurt. Almost 60 percent say the VA is doing an “only fair” or “poor” job in addressing the problems faced by veterans. Another reason why the US should not intervene in wars because a lot of people who served in wars suffer from PTSD and many other problems. If people serve the country they should expect the same in return and they should get treatments if they have any health or physical problems from wars. In an article called “A Legacy of Pride and Pain”, it says “More than 1 million suffer from relationship problems and experience outbursts of anger. Two key indicators of post-traumatic stress.” It is saying that a lot of people are suffering from PTSD and they are not getting treated for it. An Army member who left last summer has filed a claim with the VA seeking medical care and financial support, but he never received a response. If the government isn’t helping our veterans why should we help the US out and serving in wars that they can get badly injured in. I know what you are going to say, if we don’t get involved in wars, we will keep getting attacked and no one is going to stop it. However, this idea is not true because we could only get into wars if we are being threatened or attacked because we can do something about it.

Because of these problems I would like to propose a solution. The government should support their veterans by having a better doctors help the vets out so that the veterans are more satisfied from the treatment they are getting. Nearly 1.5 million of those who served in the wars believe the needs of their fellow vets are not being met by the government. Thus, I strongly encourage you to consider this letter and I hope you will do something about the veterans and help them out a little bit. I appreciate you spending your time in reading this letter and I hope you have a great rest of you day. Thank you

Sincerely,

Nicholas Lau
