An Open Letter to the U.S Government and Congress

Dear U.S Government and Congress,

My name is Patrick Narciso and I am a student at Summit Shasta in San Francisco. In my English class, we have been discussing a controversial issue of war through many articles, debates and sources. In this project, I have been learning about how war can create a dangerous environment and kill many civilians in our community by reading many articles in my English class. Our project asked us to consider the essential question, “How can war deeply affect others?” Through this project, I realized war can cause an unstable and insecure community because of the violence happening between the two countries. I wanted to write to you, specifically, because everyone who works for the U.S Government and Congress can benefit from and fix this issue so that people and civilians will not be harmed.

I believe that the U.S should never use chemical weapons because it would be an international outrage that would kill many civilians around the world. This is important because if we do not fix or benefit from this environment, then there will be horrific events occurring later on. I know this is true because the chemical weapons cause a burning sensation to the whole human body, injury and death through chemical action. According to the article, “Chemical Weapons Use Is Prohibited in Syria” by the Agence France-Presse on April 4, 2017, it says “Inhaled or absorbed through the skin, sarin gas kills by crippling the respiratory center of the central nervous system and paralyzes the muscles around the lungs.” Once a certain chemical is absorbed in the human body, it would deeply affect the muscles and cause certain problems. You would be paralyzed or have a damaged nervous system, while some might say those types of weapons are very useful to be victorious after the war and other people might think that chemical weapons are useful because those types of weapons can be the key strategy to be victorious at the end of the war and have all the glory. However, it is important to consider other citizens’ health issues to those kinds of weapons and situations causing those problems. These weapons have released poisonous gas that have killed thousands of civilians. For all these reasons, I would like to offer a solution: We should ban chemical weapons out of the United States for safety purposes towards the citizens and the government.

Thus, I strongly encourage you to consider that there will be no more chemical weapons being used for war so that there will be no more civilians being killed, no horrific events that would affect the environment and there will be no poisonous toxins released in the air so that people will not be sick, injured or even dead. This will make a difference because there will be citizens in the United States appreciating the military and the government for their actions and there will not be dangerous environment occurring. This will solve the problem because the citizens will not feel any harm and no horrifying events will happen to the environment. I hope to see everyone from the U.S Government and Congress in the future. I appreciate your actions and services towards our country. Thank you for everything that you have given us.

Warm Regards,

Patrick Narciso
