This week, my partner and I explored more of the streets of San Francisco and learned more about the culture of our diverse city. Last time, when we went to Civic Center and Japantown, we increased productivity and courage. This time in Embarcadero and venturing the many Piers, we experience the difference between different areas of San Francisco and trying to avoid small talk. These encounters are crucial in our project, because they improve who we are as people and allows us to gain experiences.

Throughout the week, we learned that there are different people, depending on which part of San Francisco you are in. Last week, when we went to Civic Center and Japantown, there were a lot of locals and not much tourists who visited there. This week, when we went to Embarcadero and walked around the pier, all our encounters were of tourists who were visiting from different countries and states. This was a difficult point in our project, as we struggled to find someone who had the answers we were looking for. Most of our interview questions consisted of asking about the culture and the experiences you have in San Francisco, and these were difficult to answer unless you have been in San Francisco for awhile. Even though we did not get the answers we were looking for, we still got to hear how similar people’s perspective of San Francisco is all over the world.

Not only did we have a hard time finding the answers to help further us along in the project, we also struggled with small talk. Before, in the other parts of San Francisco that we previously explored, many gave us detailed answers that contributed to the project. This time, at the pier, my partner and I struggled with finding someone who would answer the questions fully and detailed. Most of the interviewees resorted to answering with “no comment”,“I don’t know”, or “I prefer not to answer”. So far, I am surprised we have not been kidnapped yet.
