During our onboarding weeks, we often hear our new joiners share how unique it is for them to join a MedTech such as PlusDental. No wonder why, it’s pretty rare to have a variety of teams ranging from medical staff to software engineers whilst having clinics, producing a physical product along with top-notch digital applications. We decided to interview our new joiner Oscar David Gallardo Prada to find out more about what it is really like to join PlusDental as a Senior Software Engineer.

What made you decide to join PlusDental?

Of course, the product itself because it has an impact. The idea of building technology to support dental treatments is definitely very attractive and different to more common e-commerce or fintech of the Berlin startup world, in my opinion.

What was your first impression of PlusDental when you first learnt about us?

My first impression was that I had been contacted by a dental company that requires some support in technology. I decided to give it a shot and responded on Linkedin to hear what the recruiter had to say. After all, I thought MedTech was always highly attractive. Little did I know about how much more than a dental clinic business this was. I was surprised to learn the whole product was based in tech and that it involved Mobile, Backend, 3D models, 3D printing, and more stuff to create an amazing experience for the patients during their treatment process. I got to know the tech team and the CTO Michael Kugele as well during the hiring process. It gave me a great first impression of PlusDental.

What was your first week like at PlusDental?

Very exciting, I would say. It’s a pretty international workplace. I had a great onboarding process, met a lot of new joiners from different teams, got to know my team better. I appreciate that everybody was supportive of introducing the whole company and processes.

What else did you learn about PlusDental a few months after you started?

Very professional colleagues and a nice environment where everyone is open to participate and ask questions. Everybody is looking to apply the best practices and not only maintain an old code base. In our Tech team, most of the engineers are fullstack which allows the knowledge to be widely spread in the team and create a full feature. The QA team is really strong and provides great support to developers throughout the whole process. Together we are able to make the treatment as seamless possible for our patients and orthodontists who use the technology we build.

What would you say is the best for you about working at PlusDental?

Knowing that dentists are not wasting time filling in forms with patient information, they are able to focus on treating our patients in the best way possible utilising the tech solutions that we implement. That’s amazing!
