Long, Medium, or Short

I am long, medium, or short.

I can often be quite taut.

I am something cherished by all,

And yet I am hated by most.

I can be seen as very unfair.

But honestly it’s up to you what I’m like.

Note; lemonade can taste great.

Note; not everyone can relate.

So what am I?
