Fashion Week; What it is

Fashion week; the epitome of style and pizzazz. These runway shows inspire you to show off your inner Blair Waldorf and Selena Vanderwoodsen and take on the streets looking chic. Many have heard of Fashion week, however, some do not understand the concept behind it. But hey! Don’t worry, I’ve got your backs.

Though there are many countries that take on this event on a smaller scale, the major runway shows are held in the fashion capitals of the world. These capitals include Milan, Paris, New York and London, all of which have the same purpose but different ideas.

Fashion week, as its name suggests, is an event that lasts for approximately a week in which fashion designers, brands, or “houses” showcase their latest collections of apparels through runway shows to the media and buyers. This event is known to initiate trends which inspire style of a period of time.

London

London Fashion Week is known to host emerging designers and brands with the avant-garde perspective of fashion. The designs presented here are known to be for least commercial uses. Over here, emerging designers have the freedom of going all out with their designs when it comes to the artistic element to it.

New York

New York Fashion Week does not exactly have a direction or a specific style to its collections. The range of collections presented here are wide and range from the prospect of the craftsmanship of the designs to the artistic intention of it.

Paris

Paris fashion week usually consists of the big brands that are successful in the fashion industry. Some of these brands include Dior, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga. Paris Fashion Week is known to be the biggest out of the four considering that Paris is one of the most prominent fashion cities in the world.

Milan

Though it’s similar to Paris, most collections displayed in Milan are known to be outlandish. This in turn has led brands like Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci to display their collections at the Milan Fashion Week. Moreover, since this event is held in Italy, most Italian brands locate themselves to this Fashion week.

The Fundamentals

Most of the time, New York Fashion Week is known to be hosted before the others, followed by London, Milan and lastly Paris. There are times in which London and New York interchange but Paris, taking into consideration that it is the most important it always comes the last. Brands want the most press to make sure that their collection makes it into the mainstream media.
