No June bug for Vollar

A month has already passed since we last told you what we were up to. And once again, we have good news to share.

In June, we launched an exciting project in partnership with the Bulungula Incubator. Located in the Mbhashe municipality, the Bulungula Incubator is an NGO aiming to create vibrant and sustainable rural communities. To support Bulungula’s education programme, Vollar incentives will be introduced into the online Maths Buddy platform, where up to 200 grade 8 & 9 learners from the Xhora mouth region will have the opportunity to earn up to ∀10 a week for completing three of their prescribed online tasks. This comes at a critical time where the need for social distancing is imperative to the protection of the learners and their community, but cannot prevent the right and opportunity for learners to attain an education. The current pandemic poses a particularly dire risk to vulnerable post-rural communities like the Xhora mouth villages; where disparities prior to the crisis were already severe. This access to commodities and services are not intended to serve as a supplementary income to any of the households that the learners come from; but are intended to encourage committed participation and provide excitement during these times of uncertainty.

In the beginning of the month, Vollar made it as a laureate of the Digital Africa Challenge. As a laureate, we will benefit from a dedicated support program which will allow us access to funding, training, networking and visibility for our projects. We were deeply honoured to learn that we were part of the winners. There is no doubt that Digital Africa will help us greatly in achieving our mission to reduce disparities in Africa.

In June, Vollar also attended the Africa Shared Value Leadership Summit and the Recovery Summit. As we’re all going through strange times, those summits were very inspiring to us. Vollar is needed now more than ever before. Our technology can help those in need.
