“Much Ado about Nothing”

S: It’s been an eventful fortnight. Burna Boy gave us his album (finally), women set the world on fire by singing about moist genitalia and my government having tried repeatedly, found a way to screw us. First off, we love (a) WAP at Volume UP. While we like “ wisdom music”, and agree that “coochie music” can be tiring, we love to see our queens express themselves, and utilize their creative freedom and we especially like how this new installment sounds. We also love “Twice as Tall”. PERIOD !!! On this note, let’s talk about our picks of the week.

Brandy, the incredible singer (horrible drink), released a “singer’s” album, “B7”. You know, a collection of songs that showcase the singer’s ability. While I personally feel its a delightfully weird listen, I am glad she is back and I love the lead single “Rather Be”. On the alté alley, I like “Ignite” by Nissi. She really did something special with the hook and chorus. It’s my fave alté song at the moment. “Barawo” is also quite interesting. I love the flow and how the artistes craftily compared Nigerian response to theft in the society. Kranium made “coochie music” (again) and nobody shouted. I love “Becky” from Aminé. I first listened because the name is reminiscent of a peng thing I met one time I went dancing. I think its one of his ‘serious’ songs. TBF, i don’t listen to him often. Speaking of “reminiscent”, Reminisce released an EP recently, “Vibes and Inshallah”. I figure most of y’all, have heard “Ogaranya” and I like to focus on the lesser known songs. I like the sample one “Gbedu”. I also like how well he does “lamentations” with “Jogodo’. You should really check it out. Side note: all them betting houses and betting boys have a track at the bottom.

Side Note: Isn’t embarrassing how one aide like that is always kissing Burna’s ass. I mean hyping music that clearly fingers you as the app in public. “ Shame no dey your eye” ? I guess the music is that good sha.

At the “bottomest” bottom of this article, I added a song that will not make the playlist because of its trigger potential.

CoRonA No dEY nIgeRiA

Anyways, that’s all for this week, we are grateful for your listening ears and we hope you all are staying safe and wearing your masks (even if “cORoNa No d EY nIgeRiA”). Lots of love from this side.

T: Sigh… An artist’s promo matters as much as the music. It’s so painful to see someone who clearly has the ability & shows up all the time, be let down by how they’re promoted.

Look at what Burna’s been enjoying for the past 3 years. It’s been top notch management so far. They’ve even tapped into Diddy’s value system. My guy is finally surrounded by people who actually know what they’re doing. I hope Niniola gets to experience that, someday. That’s someone with the music on lock. Her new song with Yung Felix, Pareke, is a nice lil bop. The woman doesn’t have bad songs.

Speaking of nice lil bops, Ivorian Doll has another slapper. I don’t understand how this keeps happening but whatever she’s doing, that has her delivering like this, long must it continue. Hook this mix of aggression & sexiness into my veins.

Knucks interpolated Craig David’s 7 days & it’s really good. Produced it by himself too. I like the progress he’s making. It’ll all come together for him soon. He’s another person who needs better promo for his music. He’s so nice.

Anyway, thanks for tuning in for another episode. See you next week.

Bottomest Bottom

Jesse Reyes made a song “Gatekeeper”. Its a testament to ( the open secret,) women’s ordeal in the entertainment industry, at the hands of their male colleagues. The song which came out last year, describes a horrible person that coerces young girls to oblige to sexual advances or be black balled by the entire industry. It was just another sad song till, news broke that Detail, a music producer had been allegedly arrested for rape and sexual harassment in a case brought by Reyes, Bebe Rexha and Tinashe amongst other women. This is asides another civil rape lawsuit he lost last year. Apparently, “Harveys” come in many colors. Unsurprisingly, there is no male outrage. They only find their voices once a woman says pussy on a song. Takeoff, and Trey Songz weren’t left off the #Me Too train either.
