On Wednesday, March 1, 22-year-old Dany Vargas boldly stood in front of the Jackson City Hall in Mississippi and spoke out about her undocumented status and her fear of deportation.

Shortly after the press conference, the car she was in was pulled over, and she was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The agents told her, “you know who we are and you know why we’re here”.

Just two weeks ago, Dany’s family fell victim to an the Administration’s deportation chaos when ICE agents raided her home, and she watched from inside a closet as her brother and father were detained.

Dany came to the U.S. when she was 7 years old and qualified for the DACA program. Now at 22, she manages a small store and dreams of becoming a math teacher. But like many other undocumented youth working low-paying jobs, the DACA fees were overwhelming and Dany’s DACA protections expired.

She was detained while her DACA renewal was in process.

Dany is the latest victim of President Trump’s deportation force and the latest example of the Administration’s failure to adhere to its own deportation guidelines. The President has said he has a big heart when it comes to immigrant youth, but his actions do not match his words.

The President has signed executive orders on immigration that make all undocumented immigrants priority for deportation.

And today, Dany remains in detention, is set to be deported any minute and needs our help. Take a stand against injustice and sign the petition to #FreeDany today.
