Potential Rulings on DAPA and Expanded DACA

Supreme Court decision on immigration programs is expected imminently

In November 2014, President Obama announced executive actions that would protect nearly five million immigrants from deportation and provide them access to work permits.

The programs, DACA expansion and DAPA, have since been stuck in the courts but on April 18, Voto Latino rallied outside of the Supreme Court with hundreds of immigrants and activists demanding that the justices rule on the side of immigrant communities.

A decision is expected at any moment between now and the end of June, but what we must remember is that regardless on how the justices rule, our community must show up in November.

We have a historic opportunity ahead of us, one in which we can shape the future of our country, one that recognizes the dignity of our immigrant communities, and one that puts in place just immigration policies. But that’s only possible if we vote.

While we await the Supreme Court’s decision, here is an explainer of how the justices could potentially rule on these programs:
