Voto Latino & Curacao Join Forces to Expand Civic Engagement Outreach

By: Maria Urbina, vice-president of politics and campaigns, Voto Latino

We’re already in April, only seven months from the day our country will elect a new president, and the election season is really heating up.

More than half the states have cast their ballots during the primaries, and in both parties, we’ve seen record turnout in many of the contests, and Latinos have already made an incredible impact in states like Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Texas and Colorado.

Voto Latino has been on the ground in many of these states, engaging young Latinos and encouraging them to make their voices heard and participate in their country’s democracy.

And last week, VL was on the ground in Los Angeles to launch an exciting new partnership with Curacao, one of top 50 retailers in the U.S., to expand voter engagement outreach to Curacao’s millions of customers in Southern California.

This year, a record 27.3 million Latinos are eligible to vote, many of whom reside in states where Curacao is thriving.

But still, more than 12 million Latino eligible voters are still unregistered. This is a massive opportunity! And one that we must all take on together.

Voto Latino is incredibly excited and humbled to be working alongside Curacao, as we all collectively join forces during such an important election in which Latinos must flex their political muscle.

Last week’s event was only the beginning. We are starting to build volunteer opportunities in Curacao stores from now until election day, registering voters and highlighting the inherent power within our community.
