We all have to work, but that’s not what life should be about. We work for our income, and that money allows us to live the lives we want.

However, life is unpredictable. Sometimes we’re struck down unexpectedly: illness, stress, exhaustion, or injury can change lives quickly. Without work, we can’t earn, and without an income, the quality of life can drop drastically.

Recently, we launched our new income protection product, Fond, which is available now in Slovenia, and we’re hoping to bring it worldwide soon. If you understand Slovenian, read about it on our homepage here. If not, read on.

What is Fond

Fond is not a typical insurance policy. Health insurance policies will usually cover the cost of treatment and rehabilitation. Most income loss policies only cover you for permanent disability, but what if you can’t work due to illness or injury. You might need to stop working, but your bills keep coming, and that’s where Fond comes to the rescue.

Fond continues to cover you even when illness or injury puts you out of work for an extended period. So you can maintain your way of life and focus on getting better without financial stress forcing you back to work before you’re ready.

Who is it for?

Fond is available to all those who want to ensure they can still enjoy their life, even if they are hit with a long-term illness and unable to work, especially sole traders.

There are over 100,000 self-employed people in Slovenia alone, in a variety of industries, tradespeople, delivery drivers, actors, and writers. Without the backing of an employer, if these freelancers fall ill, they’re on their own. Furthermore, many insurers don’t even offer income protection for sole-traders.

Fond is your safety net. Hopefully, you won’t need it, but if you do, it’s there.

How does it work?

When you sign up to Fond, you’re joining up with a like-minded group of individuals looking to protect their quality of life. Each group comprises of at least 25 members that contribute a set amount each month, building up a pot. If any member is struck down by illness and unable to work for a month or more, Fond provides that member with a set monthly allowance until they are ready to work again.

Unlike insurance premiums, which are not refundable, the money remains yours. If you choose to leave at any time, you can do so. You’ll get back your contributions minus any share that has been paid out to the group.

Fond will cover your income for up to two years. In the unlikely event that your illness or injury means you’re still not able to work after two years, ongoing compensation will be paid out by an insurance company.

Fond works for both individuals and groups. You can apply today if you’re a member of an association or group based in the Republic of Slovenia and have at least 25 members. If you’re on your own, don’t worry, you won’t be for long. Register your interest, and we’ll find you a group. Click here. (Only for those in Slovenia. For now.)
