Start every week with VPCo.’s Starting Five, our favorite highlights from the last week in sports.

  1. Concessions/retail innovation is taking place in Seattle as the Seahawks’ Lumen Field will use both Just Walk Out technology and palm-recognition technology this season.

The faster, frictionless concept hopes to get fans back to their seats quicker, solving a problem that venues across the country have faced for years: Fans waiting in lines instead of cheering from their seats.

2. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have teamed up to form the TGL, a tech-infused golf league that will tee off in 2024.

The PGA Tour has been scrambling to find an answer to the LIV Tour in hopes of keeping golfers on the PGA Tour. Could the TGL be one of the answers?

3. Doritos launched the Triangle Tracker Program in conjunction with Snapchat, inviting people to use a Snapchat filter to transform any triangle in the real world into a virtual chip.

There are games and prizes to entice people to play, and as a part of the campaign, Doritos transformed landmarks/buildings in different cities into a giant Doritos chip.

4. Ever wondered what it takes to get a field ready for a game? Minnesota United has teamed up with Toro to give fans a chance to mow the grass at Allianz Field.

This partnership and activation must garner interest from fans as this is not the first time the two organizations hosted the Groundskeeper For A Day contest.

5. The Detroit Lions have partnered with fan engagement platform Rival to launch an online gaming community for Lions fans around the world. The Lions join the Seattle Seahawks as the only two teams in the NFL partnered with Rival.

Fans will be able to join Lions Gaming, an online community, where they will be able to play in tournaments, compare stats and rankings with other gamers, and much more.

Pro sports teams and leagues have been finding their way into the game community more frequently over the last few years and this type of community is another way teams/leagues can foster relationships and engage with fans.

Until next time, best swishes.
