Well if this question is posed to non-chemical Engg students undoubtedly the answer would be yes. but it’s actually not what they think.

“Chemical engineering means a chemist with a lot of chemistry background “ it’s basically a myth that every individual would have listened by others or thought of themselves before choosing a degree stream in the college that’s the reason why most of them wouldn’t dare to choose chemical engineering misinterpreting it as chemistry

But the fact still remained in the dark only a few who dared in choosing the chemical got the real gist of it.

More often chemists & not chemical engineers are the ones who work with chemicals.

Technically chemical engineers don’t work with chemicals.

Then what do chemical engineers do actually ??

Let me explain you with a common household example formation of curd from milk

I am assuming everyone are well known about the process of making curd from milk

Imagine that you are the first person to discover the process of making curd from milk.

At first, you started preparing curd at your home and selling it to your neighbors, everyone liked it gradually the demand got increasing day by day.

Later you got into a situation where you can’t able to meet the demand for the curd by simply preparing curd at your home.

You decided to start a large scale production to meet the demand, you invested all your savings to buy machinery, raw material, labor, etc

Guess what instead of producing more you couldn’t able to meet your regular demand moreover most of the production machinery got failed.

Why did it happen?

You are professional in preparing curd at producing small scale (i.e home ) but in the case of large scale production, you failed to do so.

The conditions which were maintained to produce curd in small amounts become more complex when you try to produce in bulk amounts.

That’s where the chemical engineer’s existence comes in picture when you want to produce in bulk.

A chemical engineer knows the dos and don’ts in a large scale production.

A chemical engineer just needs to have an idea of how the process goes on.

Then the chemical engineer performs calculations, maintains required conditions, simulates the process, and executes the whole production accordingly to get maximum output with minimum losses.

A CHEMIST DISCOVERS NEW PROCESSES OR THINGS IN A LABORATORY(i.e SMALL SCALE)

A CHEMICAL ENGINEER OPERATES AND MANAGES THE GIVEN PROCESSES IN THE INDUSTRY(i.e LARGE SCALE PRODUCTION)
