Recently formation of a mushroom cloud was been observed during the fire explosion at the port of Beirut. where the stored ammonium nitrate got ignited like a fireball by the fireworks, caused massive destruction in Beirut.

It all started with an explosion a sudden release of stored energy that heats up &expands the surrounding air.

SCIENCE BEHIND FORMATION OF MUSHROOM CLOUD

It basically occurs due to instability created by the explosion on the surrounding atmosphere. Rayleigh- Taylor instability theory explains about the instability during an explosion in detail.

Mushroom cloud forms when air resistance from the surrounding atmosphere pushes the stuff at the top of the fireball sideways, flattening it slightly

Body diagram of mushroom cloud formation

The displaced material trickles down the slides of the fireball as it cools, then get sucked back into the hot centre by the rising air currents in the stalk.

As it rises, the cloud eventually gets to a height where it will be the same density as the surrounding air.

Real footage of mushroom cloud formation

Usually, this formation of a mushroom cloud will be seen during the explosion of nuclear bombs similarly which was seen at Beirut explosion. now you can assume what scale of damage had happened at the Beirut fire explosion resembling a nuclear bomb explosion.

Apart from the information, Reports suggest that at least 100 dead and more than 4000 are injured in Beirut fire explosion and many of them are missing.

pray for Beirut, help the people of Beirut by donating something if you could.
