After Solitary
Director: Cassandra Herrman, Lauren Mucciolo, 9 min
This experience places the viewer physically and emotionally inside an otherwise inaccessible world. Marrying cutting edge photogrammetry technology that places users inside of two photorealistic 3D scanned environments, including a solitary confinement cell, with videogrammetry capture that allows users to meet an actual former inmate, the experience pushes the boundaries of immersive storytelling, while exploring what virtual reality can bring to journalism.

Behind the Fence
Director: Lindsay Branham, Jonathan Olinger, 9 min
This documentary looks inside the 5x5 square mile camp that imprisons the Rohingya Muslims minority in Myanmar, and investigates the extremist Buddhists who propagate toxic anti-Muslim sentiment across the country. Profiling Abul, a husband who does everything he can to try to help his sick wife, Barbulu, a twelve-year-old boy whose future is diminished due to the constraints of living in this open-air prison, and U Wirathu, the Buddhist leader of the 969 movement who’s public support for restrictive laws have rendered the Rohingya stateless in their own land. This camp is home to the most persecuted people on earth.

As James moves through the empty house, we move with him into the past — childhood memories recalled in brief but painful vignettes — all out of order. We see an overburdened mother, a distant father, and a son who learned to face challenges by himself. But when James finds a letter, written decades ago and hidden away for him to find, the old stories begin to take on a new shape.

Doctor X: Pale Dawn

Ryan Taylor, the top geneticist at ‘Zero Science,’ is attacked by The Black Cell. He soon finds out that the creatures in his experiments have been used in nefarious activities by The Black Cell. They attempt to assassinate Taylor with the mutants. However, Taylor heads into the labyrinth to discover the true enemy behind the attacks and you are in the front seat!

The Humanity Bureau

In the near future war, climate, and political agendas have robbed America of its lush resources. Seeds rarely grow into vegetation, the water is mostly polluted, and people are obligated to work hard to earn their keep. Noah Kross (Nicolas Cage) is an agent of the humanity bureau, a government agency that determines a person’s productivity, Kross’s reports are key factors in deciding who stay in America and who is deported to New Eden. The reliable Kross is tripped up when he comes in contact with a woman farmer and her teenage son.

Hutong In Live
Director:Weimin Zhang, 7 min
After a brief introduction to the history of old city Beijing, the VR experience transitions to a virtual hutong courtyard. Hutongs are alleys formed by lines of siheyuan, traditional courtyard residences. Many neighborhoods were formed by joining siheyuan’s to another to form a hutong. You get to relive memories of kids jump roping and boating on the lake in a nearby park and interact with residents. Fast forward and now high rise buildings begin to emerge and surround the hutong houses.

Knives
Director:Adam Cosco, 16 min
Knives is a surreal drama detailing a door-to-door knife salesman’s encounter with a housewife on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Modeled after shows like The Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt, Knives is an allegory about purging the aspects of your personality that aren’t serving you.

La Camila
Director: Jak Wilmot, 20 min
The viewer find themselves in a virtual hot air balloon as they uncover a miniature farm above the mountain tops. Camila’s life is turned upside down as a series of wildfires burn their home and kill her papa. As the long days pass, Camila struggles to fill her papa’s shoes and create new clouds for the dying world below. Very engaging and heart felt.

The Recall

The Recall VR Abduction is immersive film that lets viewers see through the eyes of Wesley Snipes’ co-star RJ Mitte’s (Breaking Bad) character Brendan, as they battle aliens and avoid being abducted.

Revoked
Director: Stevo Chang, 17 min
Set in a not-too-distant American dystopian future, when the President revokes the green cards of all Iranian- born U.S. permanent residents, Jane Manesh must flee the United States or else face deportation to Iran. With the help of her childhood friend, Tessa Greene, the couple must find a way to Canada while evading the President’s newly formed immigration secret police, the Bureau of Anti-Government Security or AGS.

Speed Kills

Duration: 24 minutes
Starring John Travolta, based on the book by Arthur J. Harris, the film follows the life of speedboat racing champion

Ultraman Zero VR
Director: Kiyotaka Taguchi

Duration: 7 minutes
Godzilla like monster, Eleking, dueling with Ultraman in downtown Japan and you have the best view from a high rise. Running for your life, you then go to the emergency exit and view the big battle at ground zero looking up at the fight.

Volt: Chain City
Director: Hyun Suk Lee
The future of humanity is at stake. Volt discovers that an engineer named Sikie, knows how to utilize the power of ‘Flux.’ Fragments of the Flux are scattered around the world, and they are a powerful source of energy that may be the key to saving the world. However, a group of villains led by Averose attacks Volt in attempt to steal the Flux.

Women on the Move
Director: Shannon Carroll, 6 min

Generational look at female empowerment in an African village. When Fatchima was a child, she had no space to dream. Her life in rural Niger was a difficult mix of poverty, drought, and isolation. At age 14, her parents forced her to marry. Two decades ago, she began participating in a women’s financial empowerment program in her village. They call themselves Mata Masu Dubara (Women on the Move). Over time, she’s been able to save money and unlock a better future for her granddaughter.

The Cinequest VR Experience Lounge will act as ground zero for your VR indulgence. Meet, connect, and converse with friends, fellow audience members, enthusiasts, and VR artists. You can enjoy your time here with more VR experiential and immersive content, VR Gaming, and hospitality. VR Workshops will occur in the lounge as well. Located in the Pagoda room at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel (access off 1st street), the VR Experience Lounge will open one hour prior to and close one hour after VR Workshops.
