Interrupture: VR Doc Animation
360 Doc&Animation, 2 min 43 sec, USA
Directed by Jason Drakeford and Thomas Nybo
“Interrupture” is a true story that transports you into the escape of two 11-year-old girls from Syria and their fateful, serendipitous friendship after being threatened by ISIS. This film was directed by Jason Drakeford and Thomas Nybo and premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival 2016.
This film was created using AE and Mettle Skybox software, so no wonder that the whole production is described in their blog: http://www.mettle.com/interrupture-vr-film-skybox-studio-skybox-360vr-tools/
I would say that this work is really powerful example of the mixed materials which helps to tell the story. Of course, all we know that voice over narration of this kind doesn’t help to get the best empathy with the protagonist of the film. But 360 is still a genre where creators are limited with the capacities and voice over narration is one of the best ways to tell the story. Ss English is the major language in VR industry now, we have to use only 2 options: original language with subtitles or English voice over. That’s a tough call and we are still in the early days of the genre, but with this kind of visualisation of the story I think that the narration is less important.
Anyway, great work and great use of the tools!
