MIXAR VR FILM FEST, Russia

The nonclassic conference of leading-edge technologies MIXAR2016 was held in Moscow (Russia) at 24th September 2016. One of the main parts of the event was MIXAR VF Filmfest where every visitor could have chance to watch Russian and International VR films.

Demonstration of films took place simultaneously thanks to VR Cinema technology developed by Interactive Lab, one of the leading VR company in Russia, Samsung Gear VR devices and Georgy Molodtsov, program director of the festival.

The festival program was divided into 4 sections: VR-cinema (selection of international animated, documentary and fiction films), VR- journalism (works by RT360 and NYT VR), trailers of 360 degree projects and Russian VR (works of Russian companies). Among films were winners of international and Russian festivals.
Thanks to VR-cinema system, which can connect all devices “on air” without any wire, no headset for visitors of festival were needed and a single platform of a powerful multi-channel surround sound was organized and synchronized with each device.

MIXAR VR Film Fest continues the track of EMC VR Film Festival, the first event of such a kind in Russia, which was held in Moscow in June, 2016. The success of that event lead to appearance of several more cinematic VR platforms and venues, who are going to distribute this content commercially:

MIXAR2016 has been held for the second time in Russia. More than 4000 visitors participated into the conference in 2016, including 70 speakers in business part, 35 exhibitors with the advanced technologies in VR/AV area. The first winners in Russian MIXAR Awards got their prizes. Experts jury announced top 10 best project of the year. As “The best 360 video” was chosen PlanetPics for educational film “Diamond Journey”. Due to partnership with Mettle company, the winner will receive a set of plug-ins required for work with 360 video. The two companies were selected as short-list for MIXAR award and will also have the opportunity to use Skybox plugins from company Mettle — software leader for post-processing of the spherical video.

The Russian market for VR-content is getting interesting for the major companies in VR world market. So Kane Lee, one of the leader of Baobab studio and creator of the film Invasion, will visit Moscow to participate Kinopoisk Film Market. Invasion (directed by Eric Darnell, “Madagascar”) became one of the top animated films in 360 degree format and currently has received a “green light” to the full-length version both for VR and traditional films.
