NYTimes VR: The Displaced
Documentary, 11 min., dir. Imraan Ismail, Ben C. Solomon, creative Directors Chris Milk, Jake Silverstein, USA, 2015
War has driven 30 million children from their homes. These are the stories of three of them — from South Sudan, Syria and Ukraine. This ground-breaking VR film, created by Within and The New York Times, puts you in refugee camps and desolate villages, where you can witness firsthand the lives of the displaced refugees — their limited options and also their extraordinary, heart-filling resilience.
“The Displaced” is just a film which is required to watch as one of the first VR experiences. Cinematography, storytelling and structure of this work will be actual and some day will become “gold standard” of the early days of VR.
Not to forget that films received huge amount of awards, including
GRAND PRIX — LIONS ENTERTAINMENT (ENTERTAINMENT BRANDED CONTENT & VISUAL STORYTELLING INNOVATION IN VISUAL STORYTELLING AND BRANDED ENTERTAINMENT) at Cannes Lions’16
“The Most Next Award,” the top honor at the Association of Independent Commercial Producers’ annual AICP Next Awards and other awards.
THE DISPLACED was made by VRSE.WORKS (now Here be Dragons) for The New York Times, who also received Grand Prix at Cannes for the best Mobile app.
Along with “The Displaced,” NYT VR features more than a dozen virtual reality films including: Walking New York, Vigils In Paris, Take Flight, The Contenders, 10 Shots Across The Border, Smile More, Seeking Pluto’s Frigid Heart and Man on Spire.
