Animation (3D + spatial sound), 6 min. 20 sec, directed by Philipp Maas and Dominik Stockhausen, Germany, 2014, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Available on Gear VR ($1.99)

Logline: An asteroid emerges from the darkness of space, sending out some kind of signal. A drone tries to locate the source and dives deep into an extensive cave system.

“Sonar” was made Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in 2014 and it is definitely the project made before VR became trendy. No wonder that it received huge interest from almost every VR event in around the globe:

For some time this film was available at Sundance VR app for Cardboard and now you can actually buy it as an app for GearVR and have the best immersion out of all possible: stereoscopic film with spatial sound.

Music is a huge part of the experience, so no wonder that this work has gained such a recognition in both traditional film festival and more technological events.
