Dust motes and vertical audio

When we started VRHeads.com a couple of months ago, the goal was clear. VR and AR have been rapidly growing outside of the hardcore nerd space, and that meant there was going to be a lot of people with questions and not a lot of places ready to provide those answers.

Historically, people who customize their PCs down to the color of the braid used on the power supply cables aren’t super great at being nice to people who aren’t sure how to take a screenshot through their friend’s new PlayStation VR to post on their PSN account. The people who don’t know why their Galaxy Alpha won’t work in a Gear VR, or want to know the best place to find porn on their VR headset, are part of the VR Heads community and have been great participants both in our forums and comments sections.

This has been a lot of fun so far, and now we’re going to grow that experience a little.

Ever taken a stroll through a holographic obstacle course?

Sometimes I want to talk about the weird little things that make the tech surrounding VR amazing. I want to talk with audio engineers who are thinking about the best way to implement the next generation of spatial audio so people are encouraged to look up when something is happening above them.

I’m not alone, either. The VR Heads team is full of nerdy thoughts that need a home. Some of us are going to talk about how specific games brought back some deep feelings about a genre, while others are going to drill down on how to deal with the consequences of abuse in a social VR platform. We could squeeze these things onto the site, but after giving it some thought Medium felt like a better place for these topics.

You probably shouldn’t throw things at people in VR, but sometimes it’s kinda hilarious

VR Talk is going to be just that — a conversation. Less focus on editorial direction and user-focused guidance, and more focus on our extended experiences in the VR world.

That means the occasional rant on current topics, interviews with people who inspire us in the VR community, and sometimes guest posts from friends in the industry who have something to say. This is going to be a lot of fun, and I look forward to continuing the conversation with all of you!
