Acer is now in the game with StarBreeze. Who will be the next to join in?

Just when you thought that you had gained a clear perspective of who the top manufactures of Virtual Reality hardware were, something like this comes along.

That something is the Taiwanese multinational hardware and electronics corporation Acer’s recent partnership with Starbreeze Studios from Sweden. If you don’t remember Starbreeze, that’s perfecly okay. Starbreeze was that corporation that some time ago brought us the StarVR headset which we reported on in detail in this post. What was so special about the StarVR was (among other things) it’s massive 210° field of view and signature resolution

What this means is a new HMD, with the joint effort of Acer and Starbreeze Studios. This partnership is an indicator that the market is starting to accelerate, and it’s no longer just the VR classic manufacturors like the HTC Vive, Sony Playstation and Oculus Rift that has a dog in the fight. The main stream is starting to catch on, and as industry editors here at VR Today Magazine, that’s an encouraging thought!

The two companies aim to cooperate on the design, manufacturing, promotion, marketing and sales of the StarVR HMD to the professional- and location-based entertainment market. — STARBREEZE WEBSITE

The Acer Predator

This isn’t the first time that Acer has gone out of it’s way to show that it’s much more than just a mid-level laptop franchise builder. Since 2008 the hardware giant have had a product line under the name of Predator available for the high-end gamers and demanding creative professionals. As a matter of fact, this line of hardware is not only great, it’s also VR-ready. Let’s have a look at this magnificent beast, shall we.

Where will Acer and Starbreeze Go From Here?

What this merging mean, is that once they have combined forces for a while, we might see an entire PC-based Virtual Reality solution produced by Acer, which would secure their spot as the first PC manufacturor to do so. By joining in, and stepping up into the VR-game, Acer pro-actively stick to their mission to “Explore beyond limits”, and we’re happy they do.
