Introducing Hotspots

When VR content creators want to know where their viewers are looking, heatmaps are the standard tool of choice.

Good old heatmaps

But if you want to identify discrete point(s) in the video where the majority of viewers are looking, heatmaps aren’t great. By looking at a heatmap, you can gauge the rough areas where most people are looking and you may even know roughly how many viewers are captured within any given zone, but precisely bounding those areas or getting accurate user counts is difficult.

This is where hotspots come in. Hotspots allow content creators and advertisers to track precisely what objects viewers are looking at and quantify the number of users.

In the example below, we look at QubaVR’s The Pull video. The video forces users to look around and follow the action by constantly moving the central point of focus. With hotspots, we’re able to track exactly how many viewers are looking at the chair and lamp as gravity changes.

Hotspots are just one of the several new features Vrtigo is shipping to help content creators extract more insights from their viewer data.

Vrtigo is the next generation VR analytics platform for content creators, editors, producers, and marketers.
